Freezing February!

A little on the chilly side this last month to be outside. We rescued a little hedgehog that I spotted when returning from work one evening, meandering along rather slowly. Put her in a box and after a quick google search left her in the hands of a couple who rescue hedgehogs based in Mickleover. They already had 22 and said that if we hadn't brought her in, although she was a good weight, she wouldn't have survived the night - and this was just before the big freeze. We have kept a rough patch at the end of the garden where I pile wood cuttings and pile on leaves. I am on the look out for a suitable waterproof box that I will place underneath it all to help out any passing hedgehogs as they are really struggling at the moment.
Friends tell me that their windowsills are filling with seed trays. Their windowsills must be warmer places than mine! Mine seem to be cold, draughty places - Despite having blinds I use curtains to keep out the chill, even though they are double glazed but I will check through my seed box and see what can be done.
We are dog walking for a local charity 'Just for Dogs' in Brailsford - despite the weather the dogs really appreciate the walk and it's nature is just as beautiful at this time of year as at any other.
The local allotments are almost ready to be marked out - a long process which began years ago with a failed application to the lottery but taken up by the Community grants. They have cleared an old allotment patch which will be turned into Community Allotments - yes I've taken one on!
